An ardent traditionalist with a penchant for experimentation, fiddling sensation Ashley MacIsaac learned to play the fiddle the Cape Breton working-class, pub-stomping way: fast and furious, with phenomenal precision. Crossing boundaries of folk, punk, garage rock and metal, he has a knack for taking old conventions in unexpected directions.
MacIsaac has unarguably put his own spin on the sounds he was brought up with. He recently starred in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony and has toured with Philip Glass and The Chieftains, amongst others.
Touring with him is guitar prodigy Quinn Bachand, a highly gifted player from Vancouver Island and a sought-after accompanist. Quinn and his sister Qristina are the recipients of the 2010 Irish Music Award for Top Traditional Group in Festival, Pub & Concert.
MacIsaac will kick-start Opening Night with a free performance on the lawns of Parliament House Hobart and will raise the roof of City Hall before his tour of our islands.

Its tight timing but you could make both events as long as Djupid goes up on time. That would give you just enought time to dash across to Rowella.
Or maybe think about seeing Djupid in launceston on Monday and Ashely & Quinn on Wedensday.
Don' forget there are tow site sepecific installtions one at Ivy Lawn and the other in Georgetwon which will bethere over the duration of Ten Days.
So looking forward to seeing this performance and the level of enthusiasm that goes with it.
You'll be fine. The spiders don't bite very hard, it's the wombats you have to watch out for!
See you in Latrobe.
trying to make a booking for Rowella show but not having a lot of success. Can you tell me if it is booked out ?
I was listening to Ashley this morning on Radio National and was interested to hear of the story of migration for the Scots to Cape Breton. Can't wait to hear him live - if it is still possible !
Fantastic - highlight of my year so far. Our 8 year old twins loved it too.
Thank you Ashley and Quinn for an amazing performance and for the inspiration (daughter plays fiddle, son plays guitar).
