Winner of the 2010 Sobey Art Award and the 2008 Images Prize
Daniel Barrow has liberated the overhead projector. In this “manual animation”, a kaleidoscopic parade of illustrations flow across the screen, as revolving overlays keep limbs and other objects in constant motion.
A garbage man, with a vision to create an independent phone book chronicling the lives of each person in his city, sifts through garbage in the late hours of the night, collecting personal information.
He then traces pictures of each citizen through the windows of their homes as they sleep. Barrow’s illustrations and narration are packed with intimate details that range from amusing to heartbreaking.
